Logging Body
There are several different types of flatbed trucks used to haul logs, depending on the length to which they are cut. Logging body flatbed trucks have a fixed middle beam and side support posts designed to carry trees that have been cut to log length, but a different setup entirely is needed for tree-length logs or multiple bunks of log length material. Straight trucks can be used to pull logging body flatbed trucks and will often have a loader mounted on the rear of the truck to assist with self-loading.
Flatbed Body
The simplest and most common type of trailer in use, the flatbed truck is towable with a flat body and no sides or roof. Because they lack sides or a roof, flatbed trucks are able to carry large or oddly-shaped loads that may not fit into other types of transportation which have enclosed cargo areas. The open format also provides for easier loading and unloading, as cranes or other loading equipment can be used since there are no sides or roofs to impede the cargo’s emplacement.
Step Deck
Because there are regulations limiting the clearance height of cargo being transported on the highway, the step deck trailer (also known as the lowboy or drop deck) is a unique design specially created to carry extremely tall or heavy cargo. They are lower to the ground than a traditional flatbed truck, but also have the open format so they may be loaded using cranes or other types of equipment.
Stake Bed
A stake bed is a flatbed truck that has removable stakes or posts that fit into joists on the side of the bed. These may be removed for ease of loading or unloading, then put back into place before transportation to ensure the cargo stays where it is needed. Often used by farmers or agricultural workers, these can be used to haul oddly-shaped cargo like agricultural equipment, feed, timber, livestock, or even produce.
Hyundai
Hyundai Translead has built a reputation for building versatile, value-added, and durable flatbed trucks that can safely transport your cargo where it needs to go. They have created a hot-dip galvanizing process for their HT flatbed trailers to protect their components against the elements, using high-tensile steel for added strength. Dedicated to building flatbed trailers with strength where it’s needed but saving weight where they can, Hyundai features weight-saving holes in their flatbeds to maximize fuel efficiency.
Utility
The 4000 AE flatbed truck from Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company delivers the strength and durability of an all-steel model with the low-weight benefit of an all-aluminum trailer. Built with a patented cross member system, 47,000 lbs standard coil haul package, and a reputation known in the industry for durability and quality, Utility flatbed trucks will go the extra mile when you most need it.
Vanguard
Whether you are looking for a lightweight but strong or heavy and dependable flatbed truck, Vanguard National Trailer Corporation has what you need. Their flatbed trucks and trailers are available in either lightweight steel VSF or fully aluminum models, with either option having an 80,000 lbs distributed frame rating. While both have the same level of strength, the aluminum model weighs a full two tons less. If fuel efficiency is your primary goal in a flatbed truck, the Vanguard options are for you.
