General Dry Van Trailer
A general dry van trailer references the term that many in the trucking industry use to refer to the common variation of dry trailers. A dry van trailer is enclosed, typically with an aluminum roof and sides, and generally has either wooden flooring or aluminum flooring that is made to be water-resistant, and has the capacity to load 20,000 lbs. or more in freight, depending on the length of the dry van trailer.
Pup Trailers
A pup trailer is a general dry trailer that comes in a smaller size. The 20 ft., 24 ft., 28 ft. variations are all considered to be “pup trailers”, and these trailers are great for additional space when compared to a box / straight truck that might not be as large, but they’re also not so large that they take as much room and skill to maneuver as a 45 ft. and longer dry trailer may require.
Drop-Frame Van Trailer
A drop-frame trailer could be either a regular dry van trailer, or a pup trailer, but what defines this type of trailer is having two levels for its cargo deck. Typically, the higher level for the deck is the standard size that is the height needed to attach to the tractor truck that is pulling it. Then the next level “drops” down to allow for taller cargo that wouldn’t be able to fit into a standard enclosed trailer to fit into the drop-frame trailer.
Utility
Founded in 1914, this experienced American manufacturer is the oldest privately held manufacturer of trailers in the United States. With dry trailers that are engineered to exceed higher standards, these quality trailers are a great rental option for your business operations needs. If you’re looking for a dry trailer with the highest standards and updated technology, consider renting one of Utility’s dry trailers, like the Utility 4000D-X Composite.
Great Dane
Great Dane was founded in 1900, and this American manufacturer is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. This company started creating enclosed van trailers in 1934, as well as tank trailers, in addition to the flatbed trailers it had started within its time as a company. Known for trailers that can be trusted to reliably transport heavy-duty freight, this manufacturer is a great choice for your dry trailer needs. Keep an eye out for their Great Dane Champion or Great Dane Sahara series when looking for one of their great enclosed dry trailers.
Vanguard
Vanguard, a newer manufacturer founded in 2003, is a subsidiary of CIMC Vehicle Group. Despite their younger age, this manufacturer has grown to be a premier manufacturer of dry and refrigerated semi-trailers in the North American market. Be on the lookout for their Vanguard VIP 4000, their Vanguard MaxCube, or their Vanguard VXP dry trailers when looking for dry trailers to rent on COOP.
